Mamelodi Sundowns forward Sibusiso Vilakazi admits that he has endured a torrid debut season with the reigning Caf Champions League winners.

The Bafana Bafana international completed a highly-publicised move from Bidvest Wits to Chloorkop in 2016, but failed to hit the ground running in his first season with the club.

The former PSL Footballer of the season gave an honest reflection of his first season exploits.

‘I will give myself a two. Very, very disappointing season,’ he told the Sowetan.

‘I will summarise it as disappointing – the ups and downs,’ he added.

The 27-year-old refused to shift the blame for his performances, instead suggesting that he would rise to the occasion and thrive under pressure.

‘I have no excuse. It’s life and such things happen. Sometimes you take a knock, a big knock and you ask yourself questions, but sometimes you can’t even find the answers.

‘You have to go through the process of healing and it makes you stronger.

‘I enjoyed myself against Vita [in Kinshasa]. I saw myself tackling and fighting for the ball. It was quite good and for the first time I enjoyed myself. I rewarded myself with a goal.

‘But the reality is that if you play for a big team, there are expectations all around and at the end of the day, you have to produce. I like a good challenge,’ he concluded.
