Polokwane City coach Jozef Vukusic felt his side should have been awarded a penalty against Mamelodi Sundowns in their Absa Premiership clash on Tuesday.

Rise and Shine managed to walk away with a point at Loftus Versfeld Stadium after playing to a 1-1 draw with Sundowns.

In the game, Salulani Phiri was brought down in the area by Lyle Lakay and the referee waved away appeals for a penalty, but the Polokwane mentor believes his side should have been awarded their chance from the spot-kick.

He added that he was pleased with his side’s performance, but feels they did not play to their full potential.

‘My feeling was that it was a penalty, but I need to see it on TV then I can tell you. But the feeling from the bench was that it was a penalty,’ Vukusic told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘Phiri is a strong player, he doesn’t fall only like that. But I don’t know, I have to see it.

‘I’m fine, it was not an easy game for my team because they (Sundowns) put pressure, but defensively we were good.

‘The fighting spirit was there, maybe we didn’t play to our potential on offence, but that was because we used our power more in defence.’

Polokwane City will now take on Kaizer Chiefs in their next Absa Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3:30pm.
