Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse has reiterated his desire to finish his career with the Caf Champions League champions, and has sent a warning to Bidvest Wits ahead of the new campaign.

The 32-year-old has extended his contract with the Chloorkop-based outfit, and cited the opportunity to compete for every trophy on offer as the deciding factor.

‘I want to finish my career at Sundowns,’ he told Sowetan Live.

‘You want to play in the Champions League and for a team that’s competing for the league title every season. That’s where Sundowns are. That’s why I committed. The hard work continues,’ said Arendse.

Arendse joined Pitso Mosimane’s side in July 2012, and his new contract will see him remain at the club until 2019, with an option of a one-year extension.

The centre-back also sent a warning to Gavin Hunt’s men, who denied them them the opportunity of retaining the Absa Premiership title as they claimed their first league title in the club’s 96-year existence.

‘Next season we need to be ruthless at home. We had about four games at home in the closing stages of the season and drew most of them. We are going to rectify that. I feel strong and can’t wait to play. It’s about being patient because the guys have been doing well, but I am ready to play.’

Sundowns occupy second spot in Group C and will look to secure an important victory over St George in their next Champions League tie as they look to retain their continental title.

‘We have to win just to be up there on the table. Even St George are thinking the same thing.

‘It will be a good game to watch because both teams will attack. I think we will do well,’ he concluded.
