Watch as Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane wins a dubious penalty before converting the spot kick himself against Stellenbosch United on Wednesday. But did Downs benefit from a poor call from the referee?
The Brazilians went behind early on in the fixture courtesy of a goal from former Kaizer Chiefs striker Ryan Moon.
Pitso Mosimane’s men fought hard to get back into the game and were eventually handed a golden opportunity to level matters when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after a challenge on Zwane.
The Stellenbosch players were incensed by the decision as replays suggest that the defender did not touch Zwane at all.
After the match, talking to SuperSport TV, Stellies coach Steve Barker said: ‘Firstly it’s a free kick, he’s holding the ball between his legs; it’s not a penalty I’ve been informed. Then we have a penalty, it doesn’t get given, it doesn’t get reshown, so what are you up against? Unbelievable performance from our team tonight! Unbelievable!
‘Their hearts and everything, the way we played tonight, I cannot be prouder. I want to know the same club that say other clubs get decisions, what do they say now? What do they say? Yep!’

“That’s pretty convincing… That’s definitely not a penalty.”
Sundowns have equalised against Stellenbosch but should they have been awarded the penalty after it appears that the defender did not touch Zwane?
