Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt opens up to TNL, with Robert Marawa, on the Students winning their first Absa Premiership title in the club’s 96-year history.
The Students clinched their first PSL title when they defeated Polokwane City 2-0 at the Bidvest Wits Stadium, courtesy of goals by James Keene and Daine Klate, who has now claimed a record sixth winners’ medal as a player.
The 52-year-old says he is delighted to have won the title for the Clever Boys after finishing second behind Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous season.
‘It’s been a tough ride and we are just very happy it came to a conclusion. We are looking forward to our next game and to start the season again,’ Hunt said on the TNL.
Hunt admits that he feels relieved that his side have clinched the Absa Premiership title, with one match still to play until the end of the season.
‘I’ve been to that last day scenario and you don’t sleep well that week. I’ve been there, down to the last five to ten minutes of the game, it was a nice experience,’ he added.
The four-time Coach of the Season continued to say that the Students will continue normally as they prepare for their clash against the Glamour Boys on Saturday.
‘Knowing we are going into a game like Kaizer Chiefs with a beautiful arena and a great stadium, we will play football and enjoy the game.’
‘Certainly, we’ll play and prepare the team as normal and do things as a professional,’ Hunt concluded.
The match at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
