Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists that his side do not have to beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs in order to win the Absa Premiership title.
The Brazilians advanced to the quarter-finals of the Telkom Knockout Cup after hammering AmaZulu at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday through a goal from Jose Ali Meza, an own goal from Mario Booysen, a brace from Gaston Sirino and a PSL debut goal for Mauricio Affonso.
Sundowns will now turn their attention to their next two Absa Premiership clashes with Highlands Park and Chiefs within the space of four days.
However, Mosimane insists that his side are solely focused on their upcoming clash with the Lions of the North before they prepare for the much-anticipated encounter with Amakhosi.
‘We have two games in hand. So, this Highlands game is a thorn in the flesh and, by the way, for us to win the league we don’t have to beat Kaizer Chiefs. So, we should never be emotional about Kaizer Chiefs. We should be professional. We don’t have to win against Kaizer Chiefs to win the league. No, we don’t have to win that,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘I’ll drive the message to the guys to focus on Highlands Park more than Chiefs.’
Mamelodi Sundowns against Highlands Park kicks off at 7:30pm on Wednesday.
