Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has urged his side to be vigilant when they take on a ‘very structured’ Cape Town City outfit at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The Glamour Boys will be looking to extend their recent unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership to three after securing victories over Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu in their last two league matches.
Amakhosi also advanced to the next round of the Nedbank Cup after narrowly edging ABC Motsepe League side Tornado in their clash over the weekend.
Middendorp admits that he is well aware of the quality of Benni McCarthy’s side after witnessing their 2-0 win over SuperSport United last weekend.
‘We definitely have to be at our best. I saw them in Cape Town on Saturday, and I had seen them before [as well],’ Middendorp told the media.
‘They have a very structured way about them, and I understand what they are capable of. They have a quick transition, with equally quick players.’
The German tactician says he will structure game play around how the Citizens structure their game and not focus on individual players.
‘I don’t think it is so much about the individuals – that’s not as important. It is about their general approach – how they build up‚ their movements, and how they use the deeper hole in the midfield. For me it was important to see how they structure their game,’ he explained.
‘But let’s wait and see. We have to first see which of our players will be fresh enough to bring in after our cup game on Sunday.’
Kaizer Chiefs are set to welcome Cape Town City to the FNB Stadium when the two sides meet in their Absa Premiership on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
