Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana says his side were fortunate to walk away with three points against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilians returned to winning ways after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium through goals from Mosa Lebusa and Themba Zwane.

The win moves Pitso Mosimane’s side up to third place in the Absa Premiership standings with eight points, while Celtic dropped down to 11th place with four points from four matches played so far this season.

‘I should give credit to the boys, we came here and we fought. It was never going to be easy, coming here to Celtic, their supporters always push them,’ Kekana told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘We knew we had to respect them in situations we thought they were going to punish us. They didn’t. We were fortunate we managed to score the goals today. We’re happy.

‘We try by all means to better our performances from each match we play; more than anything we try to respect each other and put the team first.’

Speaking about Lebusa scoring the opening goal after his attempt struck the post, the Sundowns skipper said: ‘He was lucky, we spoke about it at training that whenever I take a shot, it [may] ricochet off somebody and they should try to take advantage of those [situations]. If they react early, they will benefit from that. He did find it and it was a goal that seemed like we planned it. We’re happy with the goal,’ he said.
