Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams says he is ready for the pressure and responsibility that comes with representing DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old keeper joined the Brazilians after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract after parting ways with Tshwane rivals SuperSport United, where he spent the last 18 years of his career.

Williams brings a wealth of experience to the club having kept 125 clean sheets in 337 appearances across all competitions for United, while also winning four domestic trophies, including two Nedbank Cups, one Telkom Knockout Cup and an MTN8 title.

Upon confirming his deal with the told, Williams told the club’s media department the following: “I feel great being part of Mamelodi Sundowns, I feel at home and yes I can’t wait to get started and wearing the badge it feels good.

“Obviously I know that Mamelodi Sundowns are associated with being the champions, they are associated with lifting cups and trophies and I’m no different.

“I feel I’ve done fairly well over the last few years at my previous club (SuperSport United) so there will always be pressure and there will always be challenges but one that I’m ready for, one that I’m looking forward to but it won’t be easy it’s going to be tough.

“But I think I’ve got the experience and ability and obviously the technical team and the players has got a lot of faith in me because I’ve played with many of the guys before so I just can’t wait to get started.”

He added: “The guys I’ve played with before is obviously Lyle Lakay, Kermit Erasmus, Teboho Mokwena, and Sipho Mbule, I trained with Denis Onyango when I was still a youngster, Rieyaad Pieterse and it’s nice rekindling our relationship again.

“I spoke to many of them asking them for insight and they all gave me positive feedback, and they all wanted me to join so it’s good being here and it’s good seeing familiar faces.

“They gave me so much positive feedback about the club and they said how successful the club is and if you want to take your game to the next level I have to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

“They said if you want to win trophies join the club, they gave me so much good insight which made my decision even easier and it’s been amazing so far seeing familiar faces and also speaking to the technical team as well because they laid down their places and its in line with what I expect and what I want to achieve. I think its going to be a good match going forward.
