With Itumeleng Khune out with a lengthy injury, SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has admitted to finding it difficult to substitute for the the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper when playing for Bafana Bafana.

Khune has been out since the turn of the year with a shoulder injury, and will consequently miss Bafana’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier against Libya next weekend in Sfax.

Either Williams or Bidvest Wits keeper Darren Keet will be tasked with the duty of keeping a clean sheet and earning the point needed to qualify for Afcon 2019.

‘It’s always difficult, I mean you can see people even struggling at Kaizer Chiefs. Khune, for the past 10 years or so has been amazing for club and country, and you can see that it’s not easy,’ Williams told the media during SuperSport’s media open day on Wednesday.

‘He’s got the experience, and you know, for other goalkeepers coming in it’s not easy because you always have that talk of ”Khune is not there, will they be able to fill his shoes?” It’s just another game and I need to show my quality, or Darren or whoever plays at the end of the day. If we lose a game, they look at the goalkeepers. But when Itu is there, they don’t blame the keeper. That’s the story of our lives and this is how things are going. But I believe in myself and I know that I can do it.’
