Bidvest Wits have sent their condolences to the family of Sinethemba Jantjie and Free State Stars after the midfielder lost his life in a fatal car accident on Monday.
The 30-year-old was set to join Wits at the end of the current campaign after signing a pre-contract with the Clever Boys.
However, it has since been established that Jantjie lost his life in a car accident in the Free State after colliding with a truck in the early hours of Monday morning.
Free State Stars confirmed that they will release details of his memorial and funeral after consulting the family.
The Clever Boys released the following statement on the sudden passing of Sinethemba Jantjie:
‘It is with great sadness that Bidvest Wits has learnt of the passing of Sinethemba Jantjie, who was involved in a car accident during the early hours of Monday morning.
‘After signing a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits in January, Jantjie was due to start his journey with the Clever Boys from 1 July 2019.
‘The Bidvest Wits management, staff and players offer their sincere condolences to the family, friends, teammates and Free State Stars FC as a whole.
‘A moment of silence in honour of Sinethemba Jantjie will be observed at our Absa Premiership match this Saturday 6 April against Orlando Pirates at Bidvest Stadium.’
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has also confirmed that a moment of silence will be held for Jantjie at all the Absa Premiership, National First Division (NFD) and MultiChoice Diski Shield fixtures from today (Monday 1 April 2019) until Sunday 7 April 2019.
