The newly assembled Bidvest Wits team cruised to a 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership, courtesy of goals from new signings Deon Hotto, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gift Motupa.
Both teams started the campaign well over the weekend, with Chiefs getting a point away at defending champions Sundowns, while Wits beat Free State Stars 3-0.

The game offered both Gavin Hunt and Giovanni Solinas the chance to test their teams’ title credentials.
After a slow start to the game, the action suddenly sprung to life courtesy of a rocket from Hotto. The former Free State Stars man picked the ball up and unleashed a wicked long-range strike which caught Itumeleng Khune just off his line, the Clever Boys 1-0 up after 23 minutes.
It did not take the Glamour Boys long to strike back. Khama Billiat whipped in an inviting ball from a free kick which was met by the lead of Leonardo Castro, with the former Sundowns man expertly placing his header past Daren Keet in the Wits goal on the 33-minute mark.
Castro then had a chance to give his side the lead but placed his shot wide from 12 yards out.

The miss came back to haunt Chiefs as Wits got their second goal of the evening two minutes before half-time. Sifiso Hlanti’s devilish cross was met by Dzvukamanja at the back post, who made no mistake in guiding his header back past Khune.
Wits were 2-1 ahead at the break, but Chiefs were still firmly in the game after creating a number of chances in the first half.
Straight after the restart, Wits doubled their advantage after a brilliant sweeping move saw Mxolisi Macuphu slip in Motupa. The former Chippa United man steadied himself and calmly found the bottom corner, 3-1 the score after 47 minutes.
Chiefs pushed forward in search of a goal and despite creating a catalogue of chances, a combination of wasteful finishing and good defending kept the Amakhosi at bay.
Wits then shut up shop as they looked to sit back and defend their two-goal advantage. The Soweto giants just couldn’t break down Hunt’s men, who walked away with a rare three points to stay top of the Absa Premiership standings.
