Bidvest Wits came from behind to secure a morale-boosting 4-1 victory against SuperSport United on Saturday evening, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.

The game got off to a slow start with both sides looking to sniff out each other’s weaknesses in the early exchanges.

Eric Tinkler’s side drew first blood when Dean Furman slotted away a penalty in the 22nd minute after Thulani Hlatshwayo was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Wits probed but found no way past a resilient SuperSport defence which was well-marshaled by Clayton Daniels.

Gavin Hunt made the first change of the game as Lehlohonolo Majoro made way for Gabadinho Mhango in the second half.

The home side came out with a lot more attacking intent and grabbed the equaliser two minutes after the restart when Mhango pounced on sloppy defending by Daniels and Denwin Farmer to slot home.

The goal spurred life into the Wits side who looked a shadow of the team that played in the first half with Vincent Pule and Mhango causing all sorts of problems for the visitors.

James Keene gave his side the lead for the first time in the game when he rose highest to head home Sifiso Myeni’s ball into the area.

Wits were forced into a change when Edwin Gyimah picked up a knock in the 64th minute and was replaced by Thabang Monare.

Things went from bad to worse for SuperSport as Daylon Claasen scored his first goal for the club through a thunderbolt of an effort.

Hlatshwayo rose highest to net later on as Wits ran out 4-1 victors to pile on the misery for Tinkler’s side who have only managed one win in their last twelve PSL games.
