Orlando Pirates midfielder Dove Wome says he is relishing the chance to play his part in the Soweto derby when they take on Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Wome, who signed for the Buccaneers during the January transfer window, in order to strengthen their squad this season, has made a positive impact on life at the Mayfair after scoring two goals in three starts.

The 25-year-old says he is relishing the chance of playing in his first Soweto derby, and says he expects an ’emotional’ match against Amakhosi.

‘It will obviously be my first Derby in this country and I have always watched it on TV, so personally I’m excited to be part of this team, to play in the biggest match locally and in front of a capacity crowd,’ Wome told the Orlando Pirates website.

‘I honestly don’t know what to expec,t but I’m sure it’s nothing like what I have experienced before and I assume it is going to be very emotional.’

The Togo international says he understands the importance of the match, but insists that if given the opportunity to play, he could do his best to see his side come out victorious.

‘But there are no guarantees on getting the starting eleven, so I have been working very hard at training to get a start,’ he added.

‘It would also mean a lot for me personally if I get that chance, because a lot of people will be watching the game. Not just in this country, but also across the continent and the world too. So yes, if I do get a chance, I have to do well and help the team win this game.’

The Buccaneers are currently placed 10th in the Absa Premiership standings with 21 points and have won just four out of 18 matches played so far this season.

Orlando Pirates will travel to the FNB Stadium when they go head-to-head with rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
