Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer believes star player Thembinkosi Lorch is on his way to rediscovering his best form, saying the forward is one of the continent’s top players.
Lorch enjoyed a stellar 2018-19 season to pick up the Absa Premiership Footballer of the Season award before going on to play an influential role in Bafana Bafana’s run to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.
However, after a failed move to Europe before the start of the campaign and the sudden departure of Milutin Sredojevic, Lorch’s form took a massive dip during which he didn’t score a single goal before the turn of the year.
The Buccaneers, though, are enjoying a massive upturn in fortunes since the arrival of Zinnbauer and their six wins and a draw from their last seven matches have also reinvigorated Lorch.
‘I think you know this better than me, but Lorch is a big player in Africa – not just at the moment,’ Zinnbauer told reporters.
‘And he is on his way back. He is making the right steps in the right direction, a team player now. Before I wasn’t sure about his defensive work, but he is playing for the team now. That is important for me to see, Lorch is a top player,’ he concluded.
