Kaizer Chiefs attacker Dumisani Zuma admits he was a bit scared and felt the nerves upon his return to football after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The 26-year-old had been sidelined for the past 10 months with a serious knee injury, keeping him out of action for most of the 2021-22 season.

However, Zuma recently returned as a second-half substitute for Radebe Sabelo to play the final 26 minutes in their defeat by Stellenbosch FC over the weekend.

Prior to his injury, Zuma found the back of the net on 12 occasions, while assisting a further 11 goals in 101 appearances across all competitions since joining the club from Bloemfontein Celtic back in 2017.

“It was a great feeling to be back on the pitch again. I haven’t been playing for the past 10 months and I felt the nerves. I was scared a bit, it’s been long since I played, but after 10 minutes in the game everything felt fine,” Zuma told his club’s official website.

“The first ball I received I was thinking to play it safe and not make mistakes, but after a few minutes, I was comfortable and could be the Zuma people know.

“We wanted to win the game, the team played well, but we will take that performance to the next game and I am confident we will win it. The preparations have gone well.

“Golden Arrows beat us in Johannesburg and we are going to Durban for a win. But we know Golden Arrows like to drop us back and catch us on the break. It’s going to be a tough game, but we are ready for it.”
