Bafana Bafana attacker Themba Zwane says he’s ready to create history with nine-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 30-year-old joined Sundowns from Vardos FC back in 2011 and spent one season on loan at Mpumalanga Black Aces, where he scored four goals and created two assists from 28 appearances in all competitions before returning to the Brazilians.
The Tembisa-born winger has since become a crucial part of the Sundowns squad and is considered as one of the top players in the country – having already won three Absa Premiership titles, Caf Champions League and Super Cup titles, two Telkom Knockout Cup trophies as well as the Nedbank Cup trophy.
However, Zwane is determined to continue his success with the club, having already made 30 appearances this campaign while scoring 12 goals and assisting a further eight in the process.
‘When I came to Sundown in 2011, I told myself that I want to create history and make history to repeat itself. To be honest I was ready for anything and I manage the pressure because I know what people want from me. I am expected to deliver at all times,’ Zwane told his club’s official website.
‘The secret is that you need to be consistent and work hard. Remember that at Downs we have a lot of quality players, so if you don’t do that they will take your place.’
Masandawana are aiming to retain their league title with nine matches still outstanding as they are four points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have played one game more.
‘I am trying to improve the “Mshishi” of last season, of course. I only compete with myself, and give credit to my teammates because they make things to be easy for me,’ he added.
