Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane says he will not lose hope despite Amakhosi suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in the DStv Premiership.

The Soweto giants were forced to endure another defeat after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The loss saw Amakhosi drop down to fifth place in the league standings with 39 points, while the Citizens remained in third place on the table, one point behind second placed Royal AM after 26 matches.

“Ja look we started very slow and as a result we gave them a goal they didn’t deserve,” Zwane told SuperSport TV after the game.

“As I’ve alluded earlier on, their strength is to keep the ball in the middle, suck you in and obviously try to create space for themselves behind our defenders. That’s how they got the goal anyway.

“I thought we had that one covered, I don’t know what happened to Daniel, I think he tried to flick the ball to the goalkeeper and couldn’t generate enough power to the goalkeeper, unfortunately we conceded from there.

“We’re struggling a bit, we’re still playing with gear two and I think just before half-time, ten minutes we started to get back into the game, showing glimpses of what we can do. Unfortunately we were not hungry enough to score.

“The only chance I could recall is the one of [Leonardo] Castro from a set-piece and he missed the target completely unfortunately. Second-half we started very well but we were playing in patches.

“As you can see, when you’re chasing the game and concede the second goal but I thought we had enough defenders inside the defending zone, I don’t know what he was trying, he was just fortunate to score that one.

“I thought Brandon had that one covered as well but unfortunately we ended up conceding. We looked better but still poor final decision making in the final third entries.

“We got one that gave us hope and yes look we can’t give up now, we just have to carry on working hard. The games are coming thick and fast, you can see some of the players’ energy levels were dropping, a player like Keagan [Dolly] and we also wanted to take out Khama [Billiat] but I think he has played about four games.

“It’s too much for him but we said let’s take a gamble, leave him on the field because he was our only live wire at the time and fortunately he got us the goal from Dumisani that gave us hope we can get the equaliser.

“It’s just a matter of consistency, we’re playing in patches, in drips and drabs and also poor first touch sometimes, negative first touch, if we can see the right moment at the right time, we can easily hurt the opposition.

“But look it’s gonna get better, I don’t lose hope, we have to move on at the end of the day. I’m not that worried, you we can see our chances of getting the second spot are getting very slim but it’s not over until the fat lady sings.”
