South African youngster Tashreeq Matthews has sealed a loan move from German giants Borussia Dortmund to FC Utrecht in Holland for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
The move will offer Matthews, who signed for Dortmund at the back end of 2018, a chance to play competitive first team football in the Eredivisie with chances at Dortmund minimal due to the strength of the first team.
The club’s football director, Jordy Zuidam, told their official website, ‘Tashreeq is a great talent from South Africa, a godsend. A compliment to our head scout Alje Schut, who played an important role with his network to bind the player to us.
✍️ Welkom bij #fcutrecht, Tashreeq!

‘Tashreeq is an attacking midfielder, but he can also attack the flanks. A technically very skilled player, light-footed and so very agile, it is a player with speed and fit in the legs. We have a lot of confidence in the talent of Tashreeq and look forward to the cooperation.’
The Dutch club have also included an option to buy the 18-year-old, who will now have the chance too make a name for himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
