English Championship side Brentford have announced that the club has released South Africa international midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo after missing out on in the Premier League promotion play-off final.
The combative midfielder joined the English side in 2017 after a spell in Holland with FC Twente.
Despite regularly featuring for the Bees, scoring six goals in 102 appearances over three seasons, the club decided not to renew his contract after they suffered heartbreak after first missing out on automatic promotion and then losing in the play-off final.
Brentford confirmed on Thursday that the Bafana Bafana star and Greece forward Nikos Karelis have both left the club after the short-term contracts signed during the suspension of football expired.
“On behalf of everyone at Brentford FC, I would like to wish Nikos and Kamo all the best for the future,” head coach Thomas Frank said.
“It has been a pleasure to work with them and they have given their all for the Club, on the pitch in the games they have played and in training, where their work has helped the group develop over the season.
“Kamo has been superb for us over three years and now has the opportunity to take on a new challenge. They are part of the Brentford FC story and I hope we see them again.”
