Bafana Bafana and RC Strasbourg striker Lebo Mothiba has been nominated for the African Player of the Year award in the French Ligue 1 this season.

After showcasing his talent with Lille last season, the 23-year-old has enjoyed success at Strasbourg, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further two from 30 appearances in all competitions, while helping the Alsatians clinch the League Cup trophy for the first time since 2005.

The 11 nominees for the 2019 Marc-Viven Foe award have been unveiled, which rewards the best African player in France’s top football league this season.

Hailing from 10 different countries, Morocco to South Africa, this year’s nominees highlight the breadth and wealth of African talent playing in Ligue 1.

They will be vying to succeed Cameroon striker Karl Toko Akimbo, who won the award in 2018. A shortlist of just three nominees will be unveiled in early May.

The winner of the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foé award will be announced on 13 May 2019.
