The former Sundowns man was awarded a some rare game-time for Montpellier as he came off the bench in the 67th minute and netted a penalty in the penalty shoot out as they emerged 4-2 victors over Pontarlier to advance to the Last-32 of the competition.

The Ligue II side came agonisingly close to becoming giant-killers as they forced Marseille into extra-time. Mothiba and his team, however, failed in their venture after succumbing to a 1-0 loss.
