Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has been nominated for the Proximus League Player of the Year award in the Belgian second division after a successful debut season in Europe with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns player has continued his rise since departing Chloorkop, and has set the Belgian second division alight in the 2018-19 season, while he has also shone in the green and gold of Bafana, helping them qualify for the African Cup of Nations.
Tau’s club revealed that the forward had been nominated for the league’s top award in a statement on Monday on its twitter account, which read, ‘Selemani Faiz and Percy Tau are nominated in the Proximus League Player of the Year category at the Pro footballer’s Gala’.
Tau originally signed for English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, before being sent out on loan to Saint- Gilloise in order to gain more European experience after failing to secure a work permit.
Percy Tau has been nominated for Best Player in two different leagues (Belgium and South Africa) for two years in a row. He was the 2017/18 PSL Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season. He’s also been nominated for the Belgian Proximus League Player of the Year. pic.twitter.com/9YiT12SQrF

The 24-year-old, however, rose to the challenge and has scored 13 goals in 33 games in all competitions while he also provided 12 assists.
Tau has been recognised for his fine debut season with a nomination for the top prize, but will face competition from teammate Faiz Selemani, who got 16 goals and nine assists this season, and KV Mechelen’s Nikola Storm, who netted six goals and bagged eight assists as he helped inspire his team to promotion to the top flight.
