Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau looks set for another loan move to Belgium, with reports in the country suggesting he is to join Club Brugge for the 2019-20 campaign.
Tau, who is contracted with English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, spent last season on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgium second division, where he went on to win the league’s player of the year award.
Reports in Belgium then emerged on Tuesday that the 25-year-old is set to join the Belgian giant on loan as Brighton owner Tony Bloom is refusing to sell him outright following his R50-million move from Mamelodi Sundowns a year ago.
Despite being impressive in Belgium and with Bafana Bafana, Tau’s hopes of representing his parent club in the English top flight still look bleak as he continues to struggle against the country’s work-permit restrictions.
The former Downs star, though, could take a major step forward in his career should he seal a move to Brugge and feature in the Uefa Champions League at the Jan Breydel Stadium with the Blue-Blacks having sealed their spot in the qualifying rounds of Europe’s top tournament after finishing runners-up in the Belgian domestic league behind Genk last season.
