Percy Tau celebrates his brace with teammate

Percy Tau again grabbed the headlines as he fired second-tier club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to a famous win over heavyweights Genk and seal a spot in the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup.

Tau, who starred as his side knocked out Anderlecht in the previous round, started his 18th game for the club, and fourth in the cup.

It was, however, only the second time that the Bafana Bafana striker came up against top-flight opposition in Belgium after the game against Anderlecht, but with Genk sitting top of the Belgian Pro league few would have expected Union to come out on top.

Tau, who was fresh off a brace in the previous round, had other ideas as he opened the scoring with 17 minutes gone. The striker reacted quickly, after initially scuffing his left-foot volley to fire home with his right foot.

The strike was Tau’s fourth goal in the competition and seventh overall for the Belgian club.

Union, however, were pegged back just after half-time as Genk equalised through Zinho Gano.

Tau was then again instrumental as Union hit the front when the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker set up Roman Ferber for his fifth assist of the season, and the Belgian second-division side were just 20 minutes away from a famous victory.

That lead, however, only lasted five minutes as Gano again restored parity for the Belgium giants.

Neither side could find a winner in the remainder of the game, with penalties needed to separate the two sides after 120 minutes.

Tau kept his composure during the shoot-out as he coolly converted his spot kick, Union emerging 4-3 winners to book a spot in the last four of the competition, a tournament the club last won in 1914.
