Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu is edging closer to moving to Scottish giants Rangers, with reports in Scotland indicating that Steven Gerrard’s club have begun discussing personal terms with the Amiens man.

Zungu’s current club, Amiens, are currently in talks with Rangers as they look to strike a deal for the midfielder. As matters have progressed the Gers Gers have been given the go-ahead to discuss personal terms with Zungu, and are offering him a long-term deal at Ibrox that could potentially run beyond the 27-year-old’s 30th birthday.

According to The Scotsman, Rangers would need to make an offer in the region of €4 million (around £3.6m) in order to persuade his current French employers to sell, and the progression to personal talks would suggest that there is now at least a preliminary club-to-club agreement.

The midfielder left Mamelodi Sundowns for Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portugal, before sealing a move to France with Amiens in Ligue 1.

Zungu’s club, though, are currently locked in a battle for their Ligue 1 future after having their relegation, due to the league’s cancellation following the coronavirus pandemic, overturned by the French courts.

However, regardless of the club’s future, Zungu has stated that he is keen for a new challenge and after a move to Mallorca in La Liga fell through earlier this year, he now appears to be on his way to Glasgow.
