Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has questioned whether some of his teammates deserve to wear the club’s badge after their disappointing 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout.

Pirates took an early lead in the semi-final when Vincent Pule took advantage of Mario Booysen’s error and played a wonderful ball into the box, which was expertly finished by Thembinkhosi Lorch with just 13 minutes gone.

Giovanni Solinas’ team, however, hit back quickly as Leonardo Castro capitalised on a mix-up in the Pirates box to poke past the out-rushing Jackson Mabokgwane.

It was Milutin Sredojevic’s men who had the final say when this time Justin Shonga reacted quickest in the box to score a late winner.

Khune, who was clearly emotional after the defeat, admitted in an honest interview with SuperSport that the club may be too big for some of his teammates.

‘We have to look at the performance of the team. If it’s not enough, then I will have to look at myself again and tell the bosses that ”maybe I don’t deserve to be wearing this badge”.

‘We cannot continue losing to Pirates like this – it’s unacceptable, it’s not on.

‘We have to look at ourselves and say,”Do we deserve to wear this jersey? Do we deserve to make these people happy?” If not, then we might as well tell Bobby that this badge is too heavy for us, because some of us are giving our all in every match, but it seems like we’re not all coming to the party.

‘So, that’s why I am saying that we all have to go and look at ourselves as individuals and see what contribution we are bringing to this badge,’ concluded the Bafana Bafana number one.
