Bloemfontein Celtic coach Steve Komphela feels that Mamelodi Sundowns’ goal looked offside from where he was standing.

Celtic failed to advanced to the next round of the Telkom Knockout last 16 after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Komphela admits he was proud of the performance his side produced against a side of Sundowns quality, stating that Celtic showed the utmost humility throughout the match.

‘I thought it was a good match. Sundowns when we played them in Bloemfontein the coach felt the result should not have been. And again without complaining, I haven’t seen the goal [on TV replays] I thought it looked like an offside from where I was standing,’ Komphela told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘Apart from that Bloemfontein Celtic played very well. Both teams played beautiful football. The only difficult thing for the referees was to understand and accept the fact that both teams are possession based and any possession based team as soon as they lose the ball they are ready to counter press to avoid a counter-attack. And you saw a lot of that, so there were a lot of clashes.

‘Not too many teams will sit in the last third of Mamelodi Sundowns. I thought our players did well and with utmost humility we’ll bow out  but we’re proud of their performance.’
