Arsenal were dumped out of the Champions League in record fashion as they suffered yet another 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich.
Hundreds of fans protested against Arsene Wenger’s management before kick-off and they were vindicated as the Gunners lost 10-2 on aggregate. Only one side, Sporting Lisbon, has gone out with a worse record.
Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead in the 20th minute, a lead that they would take into the break before Bayern responding in ruthless fashion.
Robert Lewandowski made it 1-1 ten minutes after the break as he converted the penalty which saw Laurent Koscielny sent off. As Arsenal began to exit the Champions League at this stage for the seventh consecutive season, they had no idea of the 20-minute barrage that could yet define their season.
Arjen Robben scored in the 68th minute before Douglas Costa made it 3-1 ten minutes later. An Arturo Vidal double made it five and ten for the tie as speculation mounts that both Arsene Wenger and Alexis Sanchez could depart at the end of the season.
