Bayern Munich vs Sevilla

Bayern Munich advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League after playing to a 0-0 draw against Sevilla in the second leg of their quarter-final clash on Wednesday night.

Jupp Heynckes’ side went into the clash having secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg of the clash.

The Bundesliga giants went into the clash with a one-goal lead, having beaten Sevilla 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

There was not much goalmouth action to speak of in a first half marred by its stop-start tempo.

Bayern appeared content with organising themselves defensively and getting behind the ball, while Sevilla looked short of attacking options in their bid to break a resolute Bayern side.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes of the clash.

Sevilla started the second half like a house on fire and came agonisingly close through quick efforts in succession from Ángel Correa, which struck the crossbar and narrowly went over.

The game opened up immensely in the second stanza, but what the players made up for in chances created, they lacked in chances converted, as Arjen Robben missed a sitter with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Bayern made their first change of the night when midfield ace Thiago Alcántara replaced Franck Ribery.

Robben almost netted a typical Robben-esque goal after beating two defenders before cutting in from the left and looking to place it at the far post. However, the Dutch winger’s effort went wide.

In the end, Bayern thwarted off any late attempts at a comeback for Sevilla as they ran out 2-1 victors on aggregate to book their spot in the semi-final of the competition.
