It rained Champions League goals on Tuesday night as Dortmund scored eight goals to crush Legia Warszawa 8-4 in the competition’s highest-scoring game.

According to uefa.com it was 5-2 to Borussia Dortmund at half-time, the same scoreline as when Monaco defeated Deportivo La Coruna 8-3 on 5 November 2003, the previous overall record-holder.

Dortmund’s eight-goal haul equals the most scored by a team in a UEFA Champions League fixture and Legia’s four is the highest tally for a losing side.

Marco Reus scored twice on his Dortmund return after a lengthy injury layoff while Shinji Kagawa netted two more. Sahin, Dembele and Passlack also struck before Rzeeniczak’s own goal later concluded a free-scoring European night.
