Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praised his side’s Champions League opponents Monaco, ahead of their last 16 clash at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

Monaco will come into the clash in a confident mood, after topping their respective group. They are also top of the French league, sitting three points above French giants, Paris Saint-Germain.

Guardiola, a 2-time Champions League winning manager, was really impressed by the quality of the current leaders of Ligue 1.

‘Like a spectator, it is so nice to see them. I am really impressed how good they are – physical, strong. ‘ he told the Manchester City website.

The former Barcelona manager admitted that Monaco will be a stern test for his team and pointed out the free-scoring nature of the former Champions League runners up.

‘It is the most successful team in Europe in terms of scoring goals, so tough draw.Looking forward to playing against them, just compliments because they are a really good team.’

The leaky City defence will have to deal with one of the most dangerous attacking teams in Europe, who have mustered up 76 goals this season, the most goals by a European team.

The City boss mentioned the attacking versatility of their opponents, pointing out the various attacking threats throughout the Monaco side.

‘The full-backs play like wingers, the wingers play like attacking midfielders. Both holding midfielders are intelligent, physically strong, they arrive to the box. Complete team.

Guardiola gave special praise to Monaco’s striking duo of Radamel Falcao and Valere Germain, who have been in excellent scoring form this season. They have managed to score 33 goals between them.

‘The two strikers are fighters and in the box – Falcao, Germain – they are killers.

For the Monaco clash, City will be without key defenders Vincent Kompany and Gael Clichy. Both players are close to full match fitness but won’t be ready for the crucial Champions League tie.
