A hat-trick by Cristiano Ronaldo helped Real Madrid secure a 6-3 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich to advance into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels returned to the squad, with Javi Martinez suspended after being sent off, while Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben were deployed out wide, with no changes being made to the midfield by Carlos Ancelotti.

The central-defensive pairing of Sergio Ramos and Nacho were deployed at centre-back in the absence of injured-duo Pepe and Raphael Varane. Gareth Bale also missed out through injury.

Madrid got off to a bright start in the opening exchanges of the match with Isco causing the Bundesliga a few problem in and around the midfield area.

Lucas Vazquez should’ve pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute after the substitute latched on to a cross from Marcelo before hitting the side netting with his scissor kick volley.

Bayern were dealt a major blow a minute later when Vidal was given his marching orders after he was given his second bookable effort for a tackle on Asensio.

The second-leg time was forced into extra time after the score was locked at 3-3 on aggregate.

Neuer came to his side’s rescue in the 97th minute when he parried Ronaldo’s long-range effort away to safety to keep his side in the match.

Marcos Asensio forced the Bayern shot-stopper into making another save two minutes later after he had his swivelling shot saved by Neuer.

Real levelled matters in the 104th minute as Ronaldo was picked out by a Ramos cross before bringing the ball down on his chest and thumping his low half-volleyed finish into the bottom-left corner.

The Spanish giants then doubled their lead in the second half of extra time when Marcelo cut the ball back to Ronaldo, who put the ball into the back of the net with a simple tap-in.

The young midfielder scampered into the penalty area and held off his man before thumping a low finish across goal and into the bottom-left corner of the net.

Asensio all but sealed the victory in the 112th minute after he did well to hold off his marker before thumping a low finish across goal and into the bottom-left corner of the net.

Real Madrid held on to their 5-3 aggregate lead against Bayern Munich to secure their progression into the semi-finals of the competition.

Meanwhile, Leicester City’s fairytale Champions League debut ended when they were eliminated from the competition after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Atletico Madrid.
