Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure believes that winning the Champions League would be Pep Guardiola’s ‘biggest’ achievement.
The Citizens are set to take on Ligue 1 side Monaco in the second leg of the Round of 16 in the European Championship, which is set to take place at Stade Louis II on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old believes that if Guardiola can win the Champions League with City it will be his ‘biggest’ achievement, despite winning it twice with Barcelona during the 2008-09 and 2010-11 season.
‘I think this could be Pep’s biggest achievement. It is his biggest test. But this guy likes challenges – and so do the players. So it is good,’ Toure told the Manchester City website.
‘This team is so young. We already had good players, but now Pep brings in young players and that is so demanding for him.
‘But it is starting to feel like something big is happening at City. The fans feel it, everyone feels it.We are getting a winning mentality in Europe and playing very well.” Guardiola has enjoyed a gloried career as both a player and coach.
The Ivorian international believes that City’s performances are coming close to the likes of Europe’s elite clubs following their performance against the French Ligue 1 side.
‘When we play like we did against Monaco, we come close to the great teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern. We cannot dream about anything yet because we still have a second leg to play,’ He added.
‘Monaco are very good, but we have the winning mentality – and scoring killer away goals is going to be very important.’
Manchester City will now take on Monaco in their second leg Last 16 encounter of the Champions League on Wednesday.
The match at Stade Louis II kicks off at 21:45.
