Manchester United moved ahead of La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid to be named the world’s richest club, according to a study.

Following the 2015-16 season, the Premier League giants became the first and only club to achieve a turnover of more than £500-million in a season. The Red Devils edged Madrid off of top spot after the Spanish side slumped to third on the list after having led the way for the past 11 years.

Eight Premier League sides make the list with five of those inside the top 10.

‘You can’t really look past Manchester United returning to the top spot and it is because of their ability to make commercial deals that are way ahead of their peers.’ said the report’s author Tim Bridge. The Deloitte study is in its 20th year.
